2019 - The Year of the Pig

Pigs have a beautiful personality and are blessed with good fortune in life.
​Recent years of the Pig are: 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019

Thursday 7th February 2019 - Special Charity Dinner for Acorns Children's Hospice, Worcester

A Fundraising evening to raise much needed funds for Acorns Children's Hospice, after a visit to the Hospice by Executive Members of WCA in 2018.

Our Main Event  - This year's Chinese New Year Celebrations - 17/02/19

Over 300 members of the public joined us to celebrate the Year of the Pig 2019 on Sunday 17th February.   
The event started at 12.00 outside the Guildhall, Worcester with Traditional Chinese Firecrackers  This was followed by a Lion Dance including interaction with the Public, especially children. 

We all moved inside the Guildhall to be seated, for short speeches from Frankie Tsang, Chairman of the Worcestershire Chinese Association and the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Jabba Riaz. There was information on the celebration of the Chinese New Year. Entertainment this Year included Chinese Music, Martial Arts and a Chinese Magician. There is a traditional giving of Red Envelopes to children present.

​We sold Raffle Tickets before and on the day, top prize £400, plus many more prizes.If you would like to make a donation towards our costs or sponsor the event in 2020, please contact us. 

Christopher Whitehead Language Academy - Mandarin Evening
Thursday 11th April 2019

Our Association hosted the second Mandarin Dinner for students learning Mandarin, their parents & staff from Christopher Whitehead Language College, St Johns in Worcester. Special Menus were prepared in Mandarin & the students were encouraged to order food & drink & speak to staff & special guests in Mandarin. 

The evening included a quiz on China and three talks on experiences with China from Frankie Tsang, our Chairman & host, Don Lee, a Chinese student at Warwick University, who is now living & working in Birmingham and HJ Colston, Joint CEO of the Chopsticks Club, a Mandarin speaker with a fascination for China since her first visit there in 1985. 

​Chinese Dragon Boat racing 2019 - River Severn, Worcester  - 10.00 - 17.00, 1st July 2019

We entered a team for this year's races competing against 26 other teams. Initial heat races were difficult, being put up against some of the eventual finalists. we managed to finish 13th and received a plate in recognition of our efforts. Well done to Min Ross for organising the event and to all our rowers who came from UK, China, Germany, South Africa and included British Born Chinese participants. Te event was followed by a barbecue at New Four Seasons for rowers, families, friends & supporters 

The Midlands 70th National China Day Celebration - 16th September 2019, Birmingham

Members of WCA attended an excellent fundraising evening attended by the Mayor of Birmingham 
and officials from the Chinese Embassy. There were performances of a traditional Lion Dance, Chinese Ballet, various singers and speeches to honour the occasion. A grand raffle raised several thousand pounds for Midlands based Charities.

Chinese New Year 2018

The event was held on Sunday 25th February 2018 at the Guildhall, Worcester from 12.00 - 14.30. This was a free to attend event, which welcomed around 300 people, and 200 people inside the Guildhall, including many children. There were Traditional Chinese Firecrackers & Lion Dance held outside the Guildhall & a Magician, Martial Arts, Chinese music, a Grand Prize Raffle and traditional Red Envelopes for children. 

Programme of Events for 2017 - Year of the Rooster

Sunday 5th February 2017 - Chinese New Year Celebrations were held at the Guildhall to celebrate the Year of the Rooster. The event was free of charge and over 200 people attended to see Chinese Firecrackers, a Lion Dance, Magician & Martial Arts performances. In addition, Grand raffle, plus distribution of red envelope gifts & sweets for children. 

Sunday 2nd July 2017 - Worcester Dragon Boat Race. Held of the River Severn each year, This year we entered a a team to take part. We were pleased to finish 6th overall, out of 25 boats.

Friday 21st July 2017 - Frankie Tsang, Chairman of Worcetershire Chinese Association, sponsors a Giraffe for the 2018 Worcester Stands Tall event in aid of St Richard's Hospice.

Sunday 23rd July 2017 - Chinese and other overseas students from University of Worcester, annual visit to West Midlands Safari Park - Kindly sponsored by West Midlands Safari Park - www.wmsp.co.uk

Tuesday 22 August 2017 - Welcome Barbeque for 2017 intake of University of Worcester Students from China. 
Tuesday 3rd October 2017 - Welcoming Chinese-British Fusion banquet held for visitors from Worcester Sister City, Hezhou.
Friday 6th October 2017 - Traditional Pun Choi (Big Bowl) meal for senior citizens - Kindly sponsored by New Four Seasons Restaurant, Powick.
